If you’re reading this, I’d like to start off with a thank you for spending even one second on me and my writing. I know life is busy, and people value their time perhaps more than almost anything else.
A lot of people have bought my stories, and I wasn’t sure what to expect when I posted my first four stories on Amazon’s Kindle store. I posted them in January and didn’t say much of anything to anyone. I was surprised when I sold several copies of each one and hadn’t done anything to promote them. I think I thought that they would just take off on their own.
Reality set in, of course, when I didn’t sell another copy for a while. There were several sales from January to June, and then a friend of mine realized the stories were on Amazon and downloaded three of them. A little time went by and she had a chance to read them and then liked them so much that she started talking about them on Facebook. I figured the time was right to announce it myself to the people I know on Facebook and Twitter, and what followed was a two-week period of high activity. A lot of people bought copies of my stories and at one point The Familiar was at #2 on the Kindle Short Reads bestseller list, held out of first by a series reading order summary about Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series.
The Sentry made it to #6, Where the Rain Doesn’t Reach made it to #9, and Poe settled at #12, but all at different times, and those are just the rankings that I happened to see when I checked. As far as I can tell, there’s no way to see how high any of the books got except to have seen it with your own eyes. The point is, I’m happy with how things went and thankful to all the delightful human beings out there who said nice things and asked questions and gave me the confidence to keep writing and to keep working to get better. My promise to you is that if you take a chance on any of my stories, you do so knowing that I refuse to put out work that is anything less than my best.
Thanks again,
Brian
